Southern Forest Products Association records, 1903-1997.

The Southern Forest Products Association Records consist of correspondence, press releases, meeting minutes, form letters, photographs, reports, circulars, trade journals, government publications, reference books, and other records documenting various aspects of the pine lumber industry. These functions include the compilation of statistical information on production, shipments, and stocks on hand; the establishment of uniform grades; maintenance of an inspection service to grade lumber; scientific and engineering research; trade promotion and advertising; conservation; reforestation; forestry laws; taxation; traffic; labor issues; mechanical efficiency; and legislation and governmental relations. The records include some earlier records of predecessor organizations such as the Yellow Pine Manufacturers' Association (circa 1903-1915), as well as several related organizations: the National Association of Manufacturers, the National Industrial Council, and the Southern Pine Industry Committee.
